"Who the Hell is Juliette"
CUBAmistad is a sister-city project linking Bloomington, Indiana and Santa Clara, Cuba. Our goal is to encourage dialogue and understanding between citizens of Cuba and the United States. We meet at 5:30 on the first Wednesday of each month in Soma Coffee House, 322 E. Kirkwood Ave. Everyone is welcome to attend.

Mar. 2005, 2007. CUBAmistad member Russell Salmon organized a two-evening course through the Indiana University School of Continuing Studies on "Cuba: Then and Now".

Jan. 2005. We celebrated the agreement between IU and UCLV at an event attended by 50 students, faculty, university administators, and members of the community.

2004. Through the efforts of members of CUBAmistad, an Agreement of Friendship and Cooperation was signed by representatives of Indiana University and the Universidad Central de Las Villas in Santa Clara.

March - April 2003. Eleven members of CUBAmistad traveled to Havana and Santa Clara to visit our friends there, introduce new members to our sister city, pursue several projects, and represent Bloomington at the third USCSCA conference to be held in Cuba.

August 2002. We invited four citizens of Santa Clara to visit Bloomington in November 2002. After two months of consideration, the State Department denied visas to the four Santaclareños.

Feb 2002. The U.S.-Cuba Sister Cities Association held its second conference in Cuba from Feb 17 to 24, 2002 . Three CUBAmistad members, and nearly 200 others from the US, attended.

Dec 2001. CUBAmistad, along with La Casa and the Latino Enhancement Cooperative at Indiana University, held a benefit to support hurricane relief in Cuba. We raised $930.

July 2001. The Bloomington City Council passed a resolution protesting the denial of visas to Cubans invited to attend the U.S.-Cuba Sister Cities Association conference in June 2001.

June 2001. We hosted the 3rd annual conference of the U.S.-Cuba Sister Cities Association.

May 2000. We sent our first delegation (22 people) from Bloomington to Santa Clara. View our slideshow to see the places we visited.
