Birding Resources
There are many excellent resources on-line for birdwatchers of all skill levels. These are just a few good sites, but you can use the links pages you find there to take to you many, many other sites that are not listed here.
- Bloomington-Birds-L Archives: Archives and information on the listserv for Bloomington-area birders.
- Sassafras Audubon Society: E-mail SAS for further information on birds in Monroe County and the surrounding area.
- IN-BIRD Archives: Archives and information on the state-wide listserv for Indiana birders.
- Indiana Audubon Society: This site includes a checklist of Indiana birds and information on birding spots around Indiana.
- Bird Checklists of the United States: Birding outside Indiana? You may want to check out these lists.
- Backyard Birding: Information on feeding, bird houses and nest box construction, and landscaping for birds.
- Birding on the Web: Includes a birders' mall with books, CDs, and magazines; checklist, birding hot spots, and rare bird alert (RBA) phone numbers.
- Cornell Laboratory of Ornithology: A wonderful source of information where you can practice bird identification skills and learn about many research projects in which you can participate.
- HawkWatch International: For lovers of hawks, falcons, eagles, and other birds of prey.
Education Resources
Education is an important part of the mission of the Sassafras Audubon Society. Through outings and programs, and through the Audubon Adventures program in the elementary schools, Sassafras Audubon strives to educate its members and the community about conservation and encourage a greater awareness of nature.
- National Audubon's Education page: The National Audubon Society's site with information and links to activities, including camps and workshops for the entire family.
- Audubon Adventures: The kid's newsletter that is sent to classes of 4th through 6th grade students about a variety of environmental topics. The newsletter includes good information and fun activities, and is sent by the National Audubon Society. To receive a complimentary copy, e-mail the Education Coordinator.
