ViolinBSO musicians volunteer their time and musical talents to perform in Bloomington's official community orchestra. Many players are professional musicians or music educators, while others work full-time in non-music related occupations. We strive for excellence in playing great music and at the same time enjoy a recreational and social experience. Trumpet

The Player Commitment

As Bloomington’s official community orchestra, by proclamation of the mayor and city council, we attract an audience ranging from interested adults and youngsters to appreciative professional musicians. In meeting their dual roles as musicians and members of the community, BSO players are expected to make a firm commitment to the rehearsal and concert schedule and to put forth the effort needed to achieve excellence in performance. The BSO Musican's Handbook is distributed to all musicians each year and contains essential information on rehearsals, concert dates, BSO contacts, and concert dress.

Come and Play with Us!

We welcome new players at any point in the season if there is an opening in the section. Any musician who would like to play in the orchestra must pass an informal audition to be held by the music director or, in some cases, a designated section leader. Seating and part assignments will be made on the basis of the audition.

Rehearsals

Rehearsals are held each Tuesday evening from 7:00 - 9:30 PM (usually in the Bloomington High School South band room.) Infrequently, additional rehearsals may be scheduled for Saturday mornings. Dress rehearsals will be scheduled in conjunction with the performance date. Sectionals may be called by the section leader as required. Please check the rehearsal schedule to see what repertoire will be rehearsed.
