History of the Organization

Female singer

CCMA was inaugurated by Eve List in 1975. The original intent was to give Bloomington musicians not connected with the IU School of Music a ready opportunity to enjoy playing and singing in small groups, either privately or performing for other lovers of music. Minimal dues were requested for expenses such as postage, mailings, and hospitality as well as for youth outreach.

Part of CCMA's mission has always been the support young musicians. To that end the organization has held yearly juried competitions for high school students who are active in their school music groups. Winners of the competition perform on a special youth concert. CCMA also helps support the Kids Compose! program, which invites elementary school children to compose melodies, the best of which are turned into orchestral and band compositions. You can find more information about all these activities on our blog.

You are invited to become a member of CCMA and lend your support to these activities.
