Township Cemeteries

According to IC Code 23-14 the trustee is to provide and maintain cemeteries located in the township. This includes cemeteries which have been abandoned.

PUBLIC NOTICE: For many years we have been trying to find someone to show us or help locate the Judah Cemetery that should be located on the top of the hill just north-west of the bridge where Old Highway 37 crosses Judah Branch south of Harrodsburg.

JUDAH CEMETERY LOCATED & DOCUMENTED NOVEMBER 20TH, 2005.

In addition, if you know where any small family cemeteries (even with as few as 1 grave) that is not listed below PLEASE contact the Township Trustee's Office. We also have plans to provide GPS coordinates/locations for each cemetery and markers for the unmarked ones.

Township Cemetery Information

During 2004 we will be updating and confirming all information on any grave site we are able to locate in Clear Creek Township. Please, if you know where or know anyone who knows:
1.) where any hidden or overgrown grave sites are located.
2.) where any grave sites are where the tomb stones were removed.
3.) where any missing tomb stones are located.
4.) any rumors or stories you heard when you younger about a grave site.

To contact Clear Creek Township Trustee's Office (812) 824-7225, so we can record the location or verify. This is not an attempt to cause trouble for anyone. We are just wanting to preserve the dignity of the sites.

Hi All,
The Sunday Hoosier Times (The Herald-Times) carried a "Trustee Seeks Help with Cemetery" article. My great-great-grandparents, Michael Wampler and his wife Permelia (Clark) Wampler are buried in this cemetery.

The gist of the article states....
"Thelma Jeffries needs help. The veteran trustee of Monroe County's Clear Creek Township has been handed a cemetery to maintain, but she has no money in the 2001 township budget to do it.

Jeffries says the Mount Ebal Cemetery Association deeded the township the old cemetery a few weeks ago. It transferred to her what money it had left for cemetery maintenance, but it's not enough to do the job and her 2001 budget was set last fall before it could include money for the expense.

Jeffries said, as the years go by and more and more old family members die, family support for small cemeteries tends to dwindle and then dry up. And that, she said, is one reason why the Mount Ebal Cemetery Association had to deed that cemetery to the township.

So she is publicly asking all those with kin in the cemetery to come forward with donations to help her maintain the cemetery. "It is a historic cemetery with a lot of veterans buried there--some dating back to the Civil War.

JANUARY 2004 UPDATE: The Township is looking for information
on this site. There is a DECKARD Cemetery just south of Guthrie Road,
but it lies in Lawrence County. There are a few locals that talk about
another cemetery as discribed but the TWSP has yet to locate it. If you
can help please contact us!

FEB. 25th, 2004 UPDATE: RELOCATED !!! Very poor condition will need some
