Participate in a Monroe County Immigration Surname Survey
Resulting Data is at the Bottom of This Page

The Farmer House Museum is your host
with Registrar Janice Partenheimer!

Monroe County was originally settled by various affiliated or extended families. These families contained various surnames that had traveled together from some common county and state, and in some cases from a still earlier county. In the county just prior to the migration to Monroe County, Indiana, they frequently allied themselves with other families that had done the same and then these augmented and affiliated families moved to Monroe County, Indiana. The purpose of this survey is to get some better idea as to how much of Monroe County was settled by these homogeneous groups rather than by individuals moving into the county. It is recognized that some individuals did come by themselves, mostly educated persons offering their services as clerks, lawyers, preachers, teachers etc.

This is not to be considered as precise survey but it is hoped that it will be useful and enjoyable. It has been designed deliberately to prevent discussion and corrections within the framework of the survey itself. Discussions, corrections, and arguments may be placed on the Monroe List at INMONROE-L-request@rootsweb.com. If you are not a member, instructions for joining are on the Monroe County Historical Society page.

There is no cause for concern should you get a pop-up that you are submitting via clear text email. Your email address will not be shown to the public, as you can see from the results below.

The TIME-LINE data for Farmer House is of extreme interest if the
history and student culture of Indiana University before the great
fire is being studied. Other types of data are directly available
as databases on the Monroe County Historical Society's page.
